Small sections
Classes are capped so a teacher can reach every desk within a single period.
Sri Jayadurga English Higher Secondary School has taught the children of Sooramangalam in English medium for over two decades — with small sections, an activity period every day, and teachers who notice a struggling child long before the report card does.

Classes are capped so a teacher can reach every desk within a single period.
Morning assembly, a moral-science period, and one code of conduct that staff follow too.
Sport, music, art or craft happens every day — not only in the week before Annual Day.
A call home in the same week a problem appears, and a meeting every term.
We opened on Kariyamanickam Main Road with a handful of rooms and forty-two children. The building has grown since; the way we teach has not changed — patiently, and to the child in front of us.
English is the medium from the first day, but never at the cost of understanding. A child who has not followed a lesson is taught it again, in the language they think in if that is what it takes. Everything else we do — the laboratories, the ground, the clubs — sits on top of that one habit.
Students who carry themselves with confidence and courtesy wherever they go next.
Strong language, mathematics and science taught without shortcuts, in a school where every child is known by name.
Both are on campus through the working day and happy to be stopped in the corridor.
This school was started so that the children of Sooramangalam would not have to travel to the city for a good English-medium education. That promise has not changed. We keep the fee within reach of the families around us, and we spend it on teachers and laboratories.
Parents do not hand us their children for marks alone. They hand them over for six hours a day, and what happens in those six hours decides the kind of adult who walks out of Class XII. We take that seriously, every single day.
Pick a stage to see what a week actually looks like in it.
The years where reading either clicks or quietly does not. We watch for that and act in weeks, not terms.
Subjects separate out and the load steps up — deliberately, so Class IX is not a shock.
Board-year discipline, without turning the school into a coaching centre.
Two years that decide the next ten. Groups are taught by subject specialists, in sections small enough to ask a question in.
Not showpieces for the admission season — every space below is on somebody’s timetable this week.
Airy rooms with fans and good light, and a class small enough that a quiet child cannot disappear at the back. Hands go up, questions get asked, and the lesson answers them.
Physics, chemistry, biology and computer laboratories equipped for the higher secondary practical syllabus, and a reading room with a library period on every class timetable.
A school cricket team that the teachers turn out with, Yoga Day on the mats under the trees, and games on the ground that are part of the week rather than a prize-day performance.
An open ground for athletics and kabaddi, buses on fixed routes with an attendant on every vehicle, a gated campus with CCTV and a staffed first-aid room.
Grown slowly, out of fee income and the trust of the families around us.
Sri Jayadurga opens its doors on Kariyamanickam Main Road to the children of Sooramangalam and the nearby rural areas.
Twelve students took the Class X board examination and recorded a 100% pass rate.
Laboratories are set up so that students learn by doing the practical work themselves.
Classes XI and XII begin, with Biology and Commerce groups taught by highly qualified, professional teachers.
Collected at term meetings and shared with permission.
The whole process happens at the school office. Anyone asking you for money elsewhere is not acting for us.
Call the office or send the form below. We will call back within a working day.
Walk through the classrooms on a working day and meet the principal.
A short conversation with the child, and a written assessment from Class II upward.
Submit the documents, pay the first term at the office and collect the receipt.
Forms for the next academic year are issued from December, and each class closes once it is full. Mid-year admissions are considered against available seats, with a transfer certificate from the previous school.
Birth certificate, the previous school’s report card and transfer certificate where applicable, four passport photographs, Aadhaar copies for the child and one parent, and address proof. For Class XI, the Class X marksheet as well.
Pre-KG to Class I is by an informal interaction with the child and a meeting with parents. From Class II upward there is a short written assessment in English and Mathematics — it decides placement and support, not selection. Class XI admission is based on the Class X result and the group chosen.
Science with Biology, Science with Computer Science, and Commerce. Group allotment is confirmed after the Class X results are published, and a group runs only if enough students opt for it.
Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, and Pre-KG and LKG finish at 3:00 pm every day.
Buses run on fixed routes covering Sooramangalam and the surrounding villages, each with a woman attendant on board. Whether a specific street is on a route is confirmed at the time of admission.
A written report after every assessment cycle, a parent meeting each term, and a call from the class teacher whenever something needs attention before the next meeting.
The office is open through the working day. No appointment is needed to look around.
